Parking

Start at Sawmill Day Use Area / Sawmill Trailhead, reached from Smith-Dorrien Trail. A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for parked vehicles in Kananaskis Country. The nearby campground’s washroom and food lockers are seasonal and may be closed during snowshoe season; bring your own food and drinking water.

Safety

Winter creek crossings require safe snow and ice; avoid the crossing if conditions are unstable. The forested return has fewer markers, so follow the Sawmill signs with a route map. Check permit requirements for groups over 35.

“Sawmill Day Use Area is coming up, with picnic tables and benches looking toward Mount Murray and Kent Ridge. I'd stop for a short break and the view; you don't need to take on a hike.”
