Hiking Inverness Ridge Trail

Between Mount Vision and BayviewInverness Ridge Trail is a 3.

Inverness Ridge Trail is a 3.2-mile, one-way point-to-point walk from Point Reyes Hill Trailhead to Bayview Trailhead. It tracks the forested ridge south through pine, fir, oak and bay woods, with occasional openings toward Drakes Estero, the Point Reyes Headlands and the Pacific. The view from Mount Vision at the north end is a clear reason to begin here. Because the trail ends at a different parking area, arrange a pickup or second car; walking back makes this about 6.3 miles.

Stay on the ridgeFrom Point Reyes Hill, the mapped route uses about 0.

From Point Reyes Hill, the mapped route uses about 0.5 mile of narrow Mount Vision Road to join the Inverness Ridge path. The old-road trail follows the crest, crossing Bucklin and Drakes View junctions; stay on the ridge route rather than turning onto those connectors. Expect dirt and gravel underfoot, forest shade and steeper pitches near the Limantour end. Near Bayview, the tread briefly meets pavement, and the dirt continuation can be easy to miss.

Make the logistics workAllow roughly 1.5–2 hours one way and sort out transport before setting out.

Mount Vision Road can close during high fire danger; it is single-lane with sharp switchbacks, and vehicles longer than 24 feet or trailers are prohibited.
