The lodge sits along Laguna Road, off Limantour Road, inside Point Reyes National Seashore, in a quiet, secluded valley. Apart from backcountry camping, this is the only lodging within the seashore, which is the whole reason to book it: you wake up already inside the park instead of driving in. It is managed by Point Reyes Lodging Corporation.

For orientation, it sits roughly 2 miles from Limantour Beach and somewhere in the range of 10 to 15 minutes from Point Reyes Station. Treat those as rough distances, not a schedule. Guests consistently point to easy access to nearby trails and the beach as the best part of staying here.

What the stay is actually likeOn-site amenities include showers, flush toilets, and drinking water. There is no guest laundry.

On-site amenities include showers, flush toilets, and drinking water. There is no guest laundry.

  • A mix of dormitory-style rooms and four private rooms
  • Shared bathrooms, unless you book an entire lodge or building
  • Communal living, cooking, and dining areas, plus comfortable lounges
  • Shared indoor and outdoor dining areas, an outdoor gathering space, and a BBQ area
  • Free use of beach chairs, boogie boards, and games
  • Parking outside the buildings
The shared-space tradeoffThis is hostel-style lodging and it feels like it.

This is hostel-style lodging and it feels like it. Common rooms and bathrooms are shared with other guests, and a shared bunk room may not be your quietest night of sleep. If you want a door that closes on just your group, look at the private rooms or booking a whole lodge or building. If the shared setup does not bother you, the payoff is a location inside the park and a sociable, low-key base after a long day of walking.

Visitors regularly describe the surroundings as serene, the staff as friendly, and the communal kitchens as clean and well equipped.

Connectivity and mealsThere is no cell phone service at the lodge.

There is no cell phone service at the lodge. Wi-Fi is available in all buildings, but plan as though you will be offline: download maps, trail info, and anything you need to reference before you turn onto Limantour Road, and tell people at home you may be hard to reach.

For food, the kitchen is the main event. All rooms have kitchen access, the kitchen is fully equipped, and there is a BBQ area outside, so shop before you arrive and cook. Buying groceries after you have settled in means a drive back out toward Point Reyes Station.

Who will like it, and who will notLook elsewhere if:

Look elsewhere if:

  • Hikers and beach-goers who want to start the day already inside the park
  • Budget-minded and solo travelers comfortable with dorm bunks
  • Groups and families who can take private rooms or a whole building and cook together
  • You want a private bathroom, room service, or hotel-style privacy
  • You need reliable phone service or laundry during your stay
  • Sharing kitchens and lounges with strangers would spoil the trip
