A Humpback’s Tail Signature“If you watch a humpback whale dive from a coastal lookout, keep an eye on its tail. Sometimes the whale rolls forward until the two broad tail lobes, called flukes, lift clear of the water.”

Trail guide
Red Jacks Point Walk is a 1.3-mile (2.1 km) out-and-back from the Red Jacks Firetrail access off Maianbar Road to Red Jacks Point and back. Allow 45 to 60 minutes with a pause at the headland. It suits a short stop for old stone remains and nearby islets more than a big coastal walk. The route has several short climbs and dips. Dogs and other pets are not allowed in NSW national parks.
The track drops from Maianbar Road through coastal bush, with large Angophora costata trees along the approach. The same firetrail brings you back, so expect to climb the descent on the return. The dependable mapped line is about 0.93 km one way and stops short of the destination pin; the exact final footpath across the point wasn't independently established. Continue only where a clear public tread is visible.
Red Jacks Point has weathered stone building remains, a shell midden and small islets nearby. One ruin is thought to have been built by Costyn around 1870 and reached by boat, though that history is tentative. The low stonework against the eucalypts is the best subject for a photo; stay on the tread and leave the stones and shell deposits alone. A separate Red Jacks–Costens Point loop takes the outing to both headlands and is about 3.1 miles.
