Tucked on the shores of Port Hacking’s South West Arm, Warumbul Picnic Area is the quiet, bushy nook you choose when you want the water in front of you and birdsong behind you. Expect tranquil views across to Gooseberry Bay and Costens Point and an easygoing, nature‑first vibe.

• Amble the shoreline after you eat—this is a mellow spot to poke around the edge of the bay.
• Bring the binoculars: it’s a solid birdwatching stop and a good place to just sit and listen.

Facilities

You’ve got the essentials: picnic tables, flush toilets, and drinking water. There’s a small car park that fills on hot weekends. Mobile reception can be patchy, so plan accordingly.

Getting There

From Audley, cross Audley Weir, continue about 2 km on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, then turn left onto Warumbul Road. Keep straight through the gate and follow the unsealed road to the picnic area. It’s fine for 2WD in dry weather; in the wet, you’ll want a 4WD. Long vehicles aren’t recommended. You can also bike in along the fire trail, and there’s a short walk from the gate to the tables.

Crowd Vibe & Caveats

It’s usually peaceful, but on hot days you may share the bay with anchored boats and the odd jet ski passing by. The last 1.5 km is unsealed and can be rough after rain—slow and steady wins here.

Best Time to Visit

Aim for weekday mornings for maximum calm and softer light on the water. On summer weekends, arrive early to snag parking and quieter shoreline time. Pick a low‑wind day if you’re planning to linger by the water. The park is generally open 7:00 am–8:30 pm and may close during severe weather or fire danger. Day‑use fees apply per vehicle.
