Bonnie Vale Campground

Bonnie Vale is a bookable campground on Royal National Park’s north side, between Bundeena and Maianbar on the Hacking River foreshore. The broad sand spit and sheltered water make swimming the draw; marked sites, hot showers and barbecues make it a comfortable base for families and a few days exploring the river. This is an amenity campground, not a secluded bush camp. School holidays can bring crowds and noise, and parking nearby can be tight, so book ahead and consider car-pooling or the ferry.

Choose a marked powered or unpowered site for a tent, camper trailer, caravan or campervan. The campground has flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, gas and electric barbecues, picnic tables and cold beach showers. Plan to cook or bring food; no café or restaurant is listed among the campground facilities. Each site is limited to one parked vehicle, trailer or boat.

By road, cross Audley Weir and follow Sir Bertram Stevens Drive for about 10 km, then turn onto Bundeena Drive and Sea Breeze Lane. The approach is sealed and suitable for a 2WD vehicle in all weather. You can also take the Cronulla–Bundeena ferry and walk about 15 minutes to Bonnie Vale picnic area. Three bitumen car parks serve the campground, including two accessible spaces near the picnic area. The ground is mostly flat and step-free, with concrete paths to the toilet blocks, but getting to sites means crossing grass. An accessible toilet and hot shower are available; one accessible toilet needs an MLAK key. Pets aren’t allowed apart from certified assistance animals.

Dharawal people fished and camped on this foreshore long before European settlement. Erosion later exposed midden layers, and the campground reopened in January 2022 after restoration works.
