Overview
Hilltop Cottage is a self‑contained, heritage‑style stay inside the park at 154 Rathane Road, Warumbul. It’s quiet, leafy, and set high enough for big views over Port Hacking—great for an easy nature escape that still feels comfortable.
The Space
Sleeps six across three bedrooms (two queens and two singles). You get bed linen and towels, a modern, fully equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, plates and cookware), a gas heater, and a TV with Blu‑Ray/DVD. There’s a washing machine and dryer, plus an outdoor balcony with furniture and a gas barbecue. Drinking water and rubbish bins are provided—take any excess rubbish with you.
Why Stay Here
It’s the park experience without sacrificing basics: proper kitchen, hot shower, real beds, and a deck that stares straight at the water. The setting is especially nice for slow mornings and low‑key birdwatching from the balcony.
Wildlife
You’re in prime habitat for regular sightings of possums, sugar gliders and wallabies, with birdlife galore—think sulphur‑crested cockatoos, crimson rosellas, yellow‑tailed black cockatoos and rainbow lorikeets. Please don’t feed animals; it’s not allowed and it harms them.
Getting There & Access
Arrive by sealed 2WD roads and park at the cottage. You’ll receive a PIN for the Warumbul Road boom gate, which is closed 8:30pm–7am. If you’re arriving without a car, a pick‑up from Sutherland Station can be arranged with the property managers at least 48 hours in advance.
Nearby Things To Do
Use the cottage as a base for classics like Lady Carrington Drive by bike, or walks to Winifred Falls, Uloola Falls, and sections of the Coast Track. The Audley Dance Hall Café is handy for coffee, while supermarkets are in Sutherland and Engadine.
House Rules & What’s Not Included
No Wi‑Fi (mobile reception is available at the cottage). No pets, no smoking, no generators, no amplified music, and no campfires or solid‑fuel burners. Feeding wildlife is prohibited.
Logistics & Fees
Check‑in is 2–4pm; check‑out is 10am (late check‑outs can incur a $50 per hour fee). A $300 security bond is held on or before arrival. Park entry fees aren’t included—budget $12 per vehicle per day. The park is generally open 7:00am–8:30pm and may close during severe weather or high fire danger. After‑hours check‑in can be arranged by phoning the property managers during business hours.
Best Time to Visit
Spring brings prolific wildflowers; summer is prime for swims around the park’s waterways and beaches. For a relaxed stay, time your arrival within the 2–4pm window and plan outings around the gate hours so evenings are easy back on the deck.
