Stockyard Spur to Garie Beach Walk

Stockyard Spur to Garie Beach is a 3.5 km one-way walk from the Garie Road and The Squeeze Way gate to the Garie Beach car park. Allow about 1 hour 15 minutes. It is a quick way to reach the coast, but the rough spur and steep climb above North Era make it a hard short walk. Pick it if you can arrange a ride between the two ends; it does not return to the start.

From the gate, follow the management track for about 400 m to an unmarked left turn by a rounded boulder. The spur winds through low bush and around large rocks before opening into grass and more open woodland, with views toward the coastal shacks. It drops to North Era Beach beside the campground area.

Continue north from North Era with the ocean on your right. The path crosses open grass, climbs the headland steeply, then descends a narrow bush track and timber steps toward Little Garie Community Hall and its old cabins. After joining the Coast Track, follow it into Garie Beach car park. The North Era houses are heritage shacks, a piece of the coast’s older settlement history. At the wide Garie Beach, frame both headlands around the curve of sand for the walk’s payoff.

The start gate is signed no parking and no stopping. Use the nearby Governor Game lookout parking area and walk to the gate, or arrange a drop-off; plan a pickup at Garie Beach car park. Park entry fees apply. Carry drinking water: the creek at North Era can be unreliable, and any creek water needs treatment. Pets are not allowed in the park.
