Hiking Cam-Boh Trail

Cam-Boh Trail is a 2.7-mile point-to-point route between Cam-Boh Picnic Area and Ringtail Trail, following the Picture Rocks Road corridor. It links the west and east parts of the Tucson Mountain District and works best as a connector or as part of a longer network hike. The separate 4-mile Cam Boh Loop uses Cam-Boh, Panther Peak Wash, and Roadrunner; that is a different route. Allow about an hour to cover this line one way. If you need to walk back to Cam-Boh Picnic Area, that makes the outing about 5.4 miles before side trails or stops.

The west end begins in a sandy wash, then the route shifts to firmer desert tread. The Cam-Boh section also used by the separate loop has uneven stone steps and a deep rocky rut. Climbing is modest, but loose rock and the rut make footing slower than the elevation suggests. This is a connector, not a summit route; continue onto Ringtail only if you have planned a longer hike.

Cam-Boh Picnic Area is the practical place to start, with auto and bus/RV parking, picnic tables, grills, a shelter, and a restroom. The eastern end meets Ringtail Trail near Picture Rocks Road, where traffic can be heavy at the access. Unless you have a second vehicle arranged, turn around and retrace the trail. Pets are prohibited on park trails.
