Guide
Gimlet Ridge Overlook is a roadside viewpoint on Skyline Drive at mile 18.4. From 2,675 feet, it looks north across Gimlet Ridge and into a chain of valleys. Browntown Valley sits in front, Shenandoah Valley stretches beyond it, and Signal Knob marks the far view.
This is an easy stop to work into a drive, with a wide view right from the road. I’d take a few minutes to look along the ridge and valley layers, then keep going; it’s a simple scenic pullout, not a destination that needs a long visit.
Gimlet Ridge descends toward Browntown Valley. Behind it, Shenandoah Valley opens toward Signal Knob, the northern end of Massanutten Mountain. Once you spot Signal Knob, the successive ridges are easier to pick out.
Look north and leave some of the nearer ridge in the foreground with Signal Knob still in the distance. That gives your photo the valley depth that gets lost in a tight crop of the horizon.
