Jeremys Run Overlook is a roadside pullout on Skyline Drive at mile 26.4, 2,410 feet above sea level. It opens a tight, west-facing view into the hollow between Neighbor Mountain on the left and Knob Mountain on the right. It’s an easy pause for the valley; the stream itself takes a separate hike from Elkwallow Picnic Area.
Trace the V-shaped gap down toward Jeremys Run to see how the stream cuts between the ridges. Sunset is a recurring draw here, and the west-facing outlook makes late-day color a good reason to linger. For a photo, keep both ridges in the frame so the hollow reads as a valley rather than one wooded slope.
Jeremys Run was once called Jeremiah’s Run. Farther down, the stream has cascades, pools, cataracts, and a small waterfall. Reaching it means hiking from Elkwallow Picnic Area, not taking a short path from this turnout; multiple stream crossings can be high after frequent rain.
Most of the drainage below the overlook lies on ancient Catoctin Formation lavas. Higher parts of Neighbor Mountain, Knob Mountain, and the Blue Ridge toward Elkwallow are capped by sedimentary rocks of the Weverton and Hampton formations. The open valley is a view into two different layers of Shenandoah’s geology.
