Getting there

Akamina Parkway is a narrow mountain road with no shoulder, so use the marked parking area and don’t stop on the road. The drive can be congested on weekends; a weekday or an earlier or later visit is easier. In winter, vehicle access ends at Little Prairie Day Use Area, so you can’t drive all the way to McNeely’s.

McNeely’s is a small creekside picnic area along the 16 km Akamina Parkway between Waterton townsite and Cameron Lake. It’s a handy meal break on the drive, not a destination hike. There are six picnic tables, dry toilets, gravel parking, and one open shelter with a stove. Bring your own picnic.

Cameron Creek beside the tablesCameron Creek runs beside the clearing, with rocks along the water’s edge.

Cameron Creek runs beside the clearing, with rocks along the water’s edge. The open shelter and the creek make this a more pleasant place to stop than a quick meal in the car; think picnic break rather than major viewpoint.
