Plan your stop

Before you go

Plan around the permit

Get your overnight permit before setting out and carry it. Each camping area allows up to two consecutive nights, with a maximum group of 12. The long approach makes this a fit for walkers planning an overnight, not a quick stop. Check current route and booking details before you go.

More about Roaring Meg Camping Area

A proper walk-in campRoaring Meg is the Prom’s southernmost hike-in campground, tucked into a fern-covered gully.

Roaring Meg is the Prom’s southernmost hike-in campground, tucked into a fern-covered gully. It’s for walkers on the overnight route, not a drive-up stop: reach it on foot via the Telegraph Track. From Telegraph Saddle, allow about 13 km to camp; South Point adds an 8 km return. The payoff is having time at the mainland’s southern tip and the Lightstation without walking back to the main campground in one day.

Pick your patchTall trees shade the cleared sites, with the creek nearby.

Tall trees shade the cleared sites, with the creek nearby. There’s more than one camping area, and the ground varies: creekside spots can be rooty, while higher clearings offer flatter tent space. Toilets are available. Creek water is untreated, so treat it before drinking; pack your meals for the walk in.
