About Little Waterloo Bay Camping Area

Little Waterloo Bay Camping Area is a remote, walk-in campground on Wilsons Promontory’s eastern coast. Its setting is the white-sand beach and clear blue water, backed by steep forested slopes, lilly pilly trees and large granite boulders. It is a destination for people walking the Southern Prom, not a place to drive up and pitch a tent.

Before you go

Best time to go

Book an overnight-walk permit before setting out and carry it with you. Groups are limited to 12, and each camping area allows up to two consecutive nights. Dogs are not allowed on the Refuge Cove track. Low sections can flood in winter, when overnight numbers may also be restricted.

Make it part of a hikeFrom Refuge Cove, the track is 6.

From Refuge Cove, the track is 6.4 km, about two hours one way, and Grade 4, with steep rocky sections and uneven surfaces. It climbs around a rocky headland through stringybark forest; a short detour to Kersops Peak is possible before the descent to North Waterloo Bay and the crossing of a granite headland to Little Waterloo Bay. Parks Victoria also lists foot access from Tidal River or Telegraph Saddle.
