Make the access work

Drive to Tidal River and make your way to Telegraph Saddle, where the trail begins. Between Melbourne Cup and Easter, private vehicles are restricted from the Telegraph Saddle car park on peak summer days and weekends; a free shuttle runs from Tidal River and the overnight hikers' car park. Check current track conditions and shuttle details before leaving. Carry enough water for the hike. Toilets are at the campground before you reach the beach; water from the creek there must be treated before drinking. If you are continuing to the campground, plan for the creek crossing—it is recommended at low tide—and book ahead for an overnight stay. The campground is separate from the beach, and its facilities are not on the open sand.

More about Sealers Cove

Sealers Cove is a broad crescent of pale sand on the eastern side of Wilsons Promontory, tucked below a forested headland and facing clear, sheltered water. This is a remote beach, not a roadside lookout or quick swim stop: there is no vehicle access to the shore, and the walk in is part of the reason to come. The cove is a destination in its own right, with a separate campground at its southern end. People make it a long day walk or include it in the southern overnight circuit. If you want an easy beach pullout, the effort will feel out of proportion; if you enjoy a full day on foot, the approach is part of the appeal.

The walk is the commitmentStart at Telegraph Saddle Carpark.

Start at Telegraph Saddle Carpark. The 10-kilometre walk one way passes through ancient rainforest and ferny gullies, with some steep sections, before descending to the coast. The track is Grade 4 and takes about three hours to walk in. Plan a full day: the 20-kilometre return is longer on the way back because of the climb to the saddle, and you will want time on the sand before turning around. Treat the three-hour figure as the walk in, not the whole visit. Sealers Cove is a rewarding choice if a substantial hike suits you; it is not a short add-on to a drive around the park.

The beach at the endAt the shore, forest comes close behind a long sandy arc and the water is clear and sheltered.

At the shore, forest comes close behind a long sandy arc and the water is clear and sheltered. Follow the curve of the beach toward the wooded headland for the broad cove view; the view opens from the sand itself, not from a roadside viewpoint. Boulders and a shallow channel mark parts of the shoreline, adding a closer look if you walk along the beach rather than staying by the entrance. The approach crosses fragile wetland on a 1.8-kilometre boardwalk, keeping walkers above the swamp habitat. The earlier boardwalk was badly damaged by storms in 2021. Its replacement was designed for seasonal flooding and a wet coastal environment and reopened in 2026. That mix of forest, wet ground, boardwalk and open sand is what gives the walk its changing character.
