Track and Tower Lookout is a rocky viewpoint above Cache Lake, reached on the Track and Tower loop. The lake, its forested islands and the surrounding ridges open up below the ledge. This is a 7.5-kilometre hike, not a quick pull-off; make room for it if you want a proper walk with a big lake panorama and traces of Algonquin's past.

Set aside most of a dayThe loop starts at Highway 60, kilometre 25, and takes about four hours.

The loop starts at Highway 60, kilometre 25, and takes about four hours. A park permit is required. Expect steep climbing and a long staircase up to the lookout, with uneven roots and rocks along the route; muddy footing can make it harder after rain. Difficulty labels vary, so plan for a demanding outing. The trail access lists parking and toilets, though the toilet type isn't confirmed. No food service or potable water was confirmed along the route, so bring your own water and a snack.

At the lookout, look for the forested islands in the lake and the bands of trees along the far shore. For a photo, keep some of the rocky ledge in the foreground with the water and islands beyond it; that gives the view a sense of height. Autumn colour stands out across the forested hills.

The loop is presented as a walk through Algonquin's past, and parts of the trail follow an abandoned railway bed. Visitors report railway remnants and an old bridge along the route. The trail guide's numbered stops add context, so it is worth bringing one if the history interests you.
