Klondyke Corner is a large, open campground with 40 non-powered tent sites near the meeting of the Bealey and Waimakariri rivers. It spreads along both sides of State Highway 73, with space to camp in the open and a more sheltered area among trees across the road. The river and mountain setting is the draw; this is a simple camp, not a serviced holiday park.

What you getThe facilities are basic: pit toilets and a cooking shelter with picnic tables.

The campground is on SH 73, about 8 km south of Arthur's Pass village. DOC requires an online booking and does not hold sites for walk-in arrivals. In winter, snow can make access difficult. The site is also a key stop for the annual Kathmandu Coast to Coast race; avoid camping here during its two-day February event.

What a stay feels likeVisitors often value the open space, river and mountain views.

Visitors often value the open space, river and mountain views. The exposed ground can be windy, and sandflies are a recurring nuisance in warmer weather. SH 73 runs alongside the campground, so some pitches hear traffic; campers report quieter spots in the area across the road. Bring insect repellent and choose a sheltered pitch if wind or road noise would bother you.
