Start at the Lake Minnewanka Day-use Area and follow the Minnewanka shoreline trail east to Aylmer Pass Junction. Turn onto the signed Aylmer Lookout route for the final climb to the lookout. The mapped line is stored once along this out-and-back corridor; hikers return to the parking area by the same route. Parks Canada lists 11.6 km one way and 7 to 8 hours round trip, while the mapped corridor is about 11.7 km one way.

From July 10 through September 15, Parks Canada restrictions require hikers to travel in groups of four or more, carry bear spray, and leave bicycles and dogs at home. Check current Parks Canada trail conditions, warnings, closures, and seasonal rules before setting out. Backcountry camping along the corridor requires the applicable permit and reservation.
