Peyto Lake Viewpoint at Bow Summit“Up ahead is the parking area for Peyto Lake Viewpoint at Bow Summit. I'd make this stop for the high view of the lake, whose outline looks like a wolf's head beneath the peaks.”

Trail guide
Peyto Lake Lookout Trail is a short out-and-back above the Icefields Parkway, ending at a wooden platform over Peyto Lake. Parks Canada lists 0.6 km each way, so plan on about 1.2 km (0.75 miles) there and back and 30 minutes. It gains 30 metres and drops 10 metres along the route. This is a good stop when you want the famous basin view without committing to a long hike; easy does not mean flat.
From the main Peyto Lake parking area at Bow Summit, follow the paved footway west to the viewing platform. The climb has a few steeper patches; the platform, not the lakeshore, is the destination. This route ends at the overlook, leaving the longer Bow Summit hike out of the itinerary.
Parks Canada also lists a 0.3 km barrier-free trail from the upper parking lot. It reaches the same viewpoint but is a separate access option from the 0.6 km one-way route mapped here. The page does not say whether 0.3 km is one way or return, so check the posted signs if that figure matters to your plans.
The platform gives the high view across the bright lake, conifer slopes and mountain walls. The water does not always look turquoise: snow or ice can cover it outside summer. For a photo, keep some of the rocky foreground or tree line in the frame; it gives the broad lake a sense of scale.
