Golden Eagle Observation Point is a covered lookout in Klausbach Valley, where you have the national park’s best chance of seeing a wild golden eagle. A territorial pair lives in the valley. It’s a worthwhile short detour if you enjoy watching a mountain landscape, but treat the bird as a chance, not a promise: weather and luck decide whether one appears. The walk from Klausbachhaus takes about 20 minutes along easy, level trails.

Bring binoculars and give the valley a patient scan. The lookout’s boards explain golden eagle life, hunting strategies, and long-term monitoring, so there’s something to take in even when the sky stays empty. The broad valley view gives the walk a payoff even if you don’t see an eagle.

Golden eagles are monitored across the surrounding Alps, and the Klausbach Valley is part of that long-term work. The wider valley has also been a release area for bearded vultures since 2021. Their seasonal information point is at Halsgrube, a separate destination farther along the trail, so don’t confuse it with this eagle shelter.

The shelter and carved eagle markers make a useful foreground against the forested slopes and limestone ridge. For a landscape photo, keep the roof or one marker low in the frame so the layered mountains still fill the view. A close-up of a live eagle depends entirely on a sighting.

Make the short approach workStart at Klausbachhaus, the information center at the entrance to Klausbach Valley.

An accessible outdoor restroom is in the center’s garden before you set out. The viewpoint is mapped as wheelchair-accessible, but full-route accessibility details weren’t verified.
