Engert-Holzstube is a small, unstaffed exhibition inside a timber hut beside the road in Klausbachtal, toward Hirschbichl Pass. It explains the park’s shift from centuries of commercial forestry toward a more natural forest. It’s free and open seasonally, from May through October. Think of it as a brief stop on a valley outing, rather than a full visitor center.

Letting the forest recoverForests here were used commercially for centuries, even at higher elevations.

Forests here were used commercially for centuries, even at higher elevations. The exhibit explains how the park is helping them return to a more natural state and what that work involves. It gives useful context for the woods around you, even though the display itself is modest and unstaffed.

A changed valleyThe nearby Klausbach suspension bridge is a separate stop and a worthwhile addition to a walk…

The nearby Klausbach suspension bridge is a separate stop and a worthwhile addition to a walk past Engert. It spans nearly 55 metres and sits about 11 metres above the stream. In September 1999, around 250,000 cubic metres of rock fell from Kleiner Mühlsturzhorn, burying the former wooden bridge, road and parts of the path and forcing the stream into a new channel. You can still see traces of that change in the valley.
