Bindalm via Klausbachtal is a 14 km out-and-back from Klausbachhaus to an alpine pasture below the Reiter Alpe, then back the same way on trail 481. Allow about four hours; the route itinerary gives roughly 380 m of climbing. Most of the walk follows the valley, with a steeper final stretch to the huts. I’d choose it for the long valley approach and the mountain setting at Bindalm, not for a summit or a loop.

Start just past the Klausbachhaus information point, leave the asphalt and follow the marked route toward Lahnwald-Diensthütte. Much of the lower stretch follows graded gravel tracks through the Klausbachtal, with the Klausbach and steep limestone slopes nearby. At junctions, keep straight toward the service hut and the upper valley. An eagle observation point along the way has information about the park’s eagle population and its bearded-vulture reintroduction project; it’s a good place to pause, though sightings aren’t guaranteed.

The route crosses the Klausbach on a suspension bridge, with the Mühlsturzgräben in view, then passes the Engert-Holzstube information point. Beyond it, leave the asphalt to the left for the hiking path. That last section is noticeably steeper as it climbs to Bindalm. If the full walk is too much, the suspension bridge makes a natural shorter turnaround, but it leaves out the alpine pasture and its huts.

Bindalm has four traditional huts, two of which welcome visitors and serve homemade butter, cheese and drinks. Look for Schüsslkas, a local cheese specialty. From the cross at the pasture, the view opens toward the Ramsau Dolomites. For a photo, include one of the huts or the path in the foreground; it gives the pale limestone peaks a sense of scale.

The story in the Schied-KaserOne of the huts, the Schied-Kaser, is a protected cultural monument.

One of the huts, the Schied-Kaser, is a protected cultural monument. It originally stood on Feldalm near Funtensee and remained in use until 1960. After that pasture was abandoned, the national park dismantled the hut, flew the pieces by helicopter to Bindalm and rebuilt it there.

Wildflowers and the returnPrimroses, gentians and wild orchids are among the flowers recorded along this valley route.

Primroses, gentians and wild orchids are among the flowers recorded along this valley route. The walk to Bindalm ends here; continuing to Hirschbichl Pass is a longer, different itinerary. During its May-to-October season, the ALMErlebnisBUS serves Bindalm and can be an alternative to walking the full return, but check the current service before planning around it. Dogs are allowed on the route but must be kept on a leash in the national park.
