The path starts mostly level, then dips and climbs a mild hill near the end. Just before the main lookout, it branches to two more viewpoints; take those if you want different angles without a big detour. The trailhead sits just under 8,000 feet, so even the short climb can feel harder if you're new to the elevation.

Look into the gorgeThe view opens across sheer, broken walls to a shadowed stretch of the Gunnison River.

The view opens across sheer, broken walls to a shadowed stretch of the Gunnison River. On a clear morning, the two side viewpoints just before the main lookout make good sunrise alternatives; each gives you a different angle on the cliffs and river corridor.
