Giant Stairway

Giant Stairway is a point-to-point descent from Echo Point to Honeymoon Bridge, beside the first of the Three Sisters. The mapped route is about 0.33 miles one way; allow roughly 30 to 45 minutes for the descent and a pause at the bridge. The short distance hides the effort: the park describes 998 stairs. If you return the way you came, plan for about 0.66 miles total and a long climb back up.

From the Echo Point lookout area, the route follows the Three Sisters track before dropping down steep, narrow stairs beside the sandstone cliff. Handrails line the stairway, and there are glimpses over Jamison Valley as the path winds down. Expect people moving both ways, so use the wider spots to let others pass. The Honeymoon Bridge joins the first Sister; the stone arch at the entrance frames a good view toward the bridge and the rock.

The separate Echo Point to Scenic World walk continues farther into Jamison Valley. This trail record stops at the Honeymoon Bridge access, so check the longer route and its transport plan before deciding to continue.

Use the visitor parking at Echo Point lookout (Three Sisters) in Katoomba and follow the walking-track signs. The descent is the easy direction; returning to Echo Point means climbing the same steep stairs. Pets are not allowed in the national park except certified assistance animals. Check park alerts before setting out because Katoomba-area tracks can close for maintenance, poor weather or fire danger.
