Leura Cascades is a picnic area and waterfall precinct on Leura Falls Creek, between Leura and Katoomba. It works as a quick forest stop or as the start of a longer creekside walk. Stay near the upper area for a picnic, or follow the paths down toward the cascades and the connecting walks. The precinct sits just outside Blue Mountains National Park, between Leura and Katoomba.

Start at the upper picnic areaThe upper picnic area has a shelter, seating, an electric barbecue and accessible amenities.

The upper picnic area has a shelter, seating, an electric barbecue and accessible amenities. The western, Katoomba-side car park has 30 spaces, including two accessible spaces, plus two minibus or recreational-vehicle spaces. From the car park it is about 220 m to the walk start; if full, council points to informal overflow near Sequoia Restaurant, about 400 m away by an off-road path. Parking is paid and time-restricted, so check the current signs for the tariff.

Paths follow the creek from the picnic area and connect with the Fern Bower circuit and Prince Henry Cliff Walk. The upper approach is gentler; the lower loop becomes a steep flight of steps, with damp, uneven footing reported along the route. A 70 m lit section to the Meeting of the Waters viewpoint has about 100 steps and is not wheelchair accessible. The accessible parking and toilet serve the upper precinct, but they do not make the waterfall walk step-free.

Leura Falls Creek drops over a series of rock ledges beneath dense ferns, with the named falls farther down the creek. Water volume changes with rainfall, so the cascades can be subdued in a dry spell and fuller after rain. For a photo, use the public path viewpoints and include the dark rock shelves and fern-lined creek rather than framing only the water.

Listen for the forestLook and listen for bell miners and lyrebirds in the picnic-area bushland.

Look and listen for bell miners and lyrebirds in the picnic-area bushland. Bell miners have a distinctive call, while lyrebirds are known for mimicking other sounds; listen around the shaded creek and forest rather than expecting to spot either bird on cue.

Chelmsford Bridge lit upChelmsford Bridge was the first illuminated site in the Blue Mountains almost a century ago.

Chelmsford Bridge was the first illuminated site in the Blue Mountains almost a century ago. Feature lighting at the bridge and lighting along part of the walk have been restored. The crossing and its lit approach add a small piece of local history to a visit that is otherwise all creek, rock and fern.
