About Johnson Farm

Tucked above the Peaks of Otter complex (around Milepost 85.4–85.9), Johnson Farm is a restored mountain homestead that brings late‑1800s to 1930s Blue Ridge farm life into focus. It’s part museum, part meadow ramble—quiet, scenic, and surprisingly immersive without feeling staged.

How to Visit

Most visitors reach the farm via the Johnson Farm Loop, an about 1.75–2.1 mile moderate loop. Park at the Peaks of Otter Visitor Center (MP 85.9) and follow signs, or take the easier approach from the lower lot near Peaks of Otter Lodge through the tunnel under the Parkway. When volunteers are on duty, they offer tours and answer questions; when they’re not, you can still wander the grounds and barns.
