Wildcat Rocks Overlook (MP 238.6) delivers big, open views into Basin Cove and the rugged folds of Doughton Park. Built in 1939, it’s one of those quintessential Parkway stops: quick to reach, gorgeous in all seasons, and usually calmer than the headline overlooks.

What you’ll see

From the railing, you’re looking across steep bluffs and forested valleys with long-range layers on clear days. An interpretive sign points out a historic cabin down in the cove, adding a bit of story to the scenery.

The experience

It’s an easy stroll on a paved path from the parking area to the viewpoint. Expect breezes and full exposure—great for crisp views, less great on hot or blustery days. Parking is right at the overlook, and it connects to nearby Doughton Park trails if you want to turn a quick stop into a longer wander.

Wildlife

Doughton Park is good country for white‑tailed deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds, with occasional black bear sightings. Bring binoculars—this is a nice perch for scanning the cove and ridgelines.
