Trail guide
This is an easy 0.2-mile round-trip walk from the signed Wildcat Rocks Overlook parking area. The stored line follows the physical corridor once from the parking-area edge to the far viewing-platform approach; the listed distance includes the return. The approach is mostly paved, with a short natural-surface section, a gentle grade, and uneven ground near the overlook.
The platforms open toward the rugged slopes and meadows of Basin Cove, with wide sightlines across the Parkway landscape. The Caudill Cabin, a reminder of the families who once lived in the cove, is visible below from the overlook. Spring and early summer can bring wildflowers, while fall brings changing color to the hillsides.
Park in the signed Wildcat Rocks Overlook lot on the left fork through Doughton Park near Milepost 241.1. There are no facilities at the overlook, so bring what you need. The platforms are exposed: keep children back from the edge, watch your footing on uneven or slick surfaces, and keep dogs leashed. Winter ice can make the approach slippery.
