Parking

No parking at either end of the Midpoint segment. The park’s main east-rim trailhead is one mile south of the entrance station; secondary trail access is at the north side of the visitor-center lot. The 0.25-mile distance excludes the approach through the network.

Safety

The far east-rim network is remote: basic route-finding is needed and cell reception can be spotty. Mountain bikers may be present. Dogs must remain on leash.

Hiking Midpoint Overlook Trail

A short connector with its own viewMidpoint Overlook Trail is a 0.

Midpoint Overlook Trail is a 0.25-mile, one-way point-to-point segment on the far east-rim mixed-use network, from the Lower Dark Horse junction to Cable Line. The mapped line includes the short retraced spur to Midpoint's overlook, so it adds a view stop within the connector. Allow about 15 minutes for this stretch and a quick look around. It is an add-on to a longer network walk, not a stand-alone hike from a parking lot.

Reach it through the east-rim networkNeither end has parking.

Neither end has parking. The park's main east-rim trailhead is about a mile south of the entrance station; there is also a secondary trail access on the north side of the visitor-center lot. The distance here covers only the Midpoint segment, not the approach through the network. Maps are posted at trail junctions, and the far east rim is remote, with basic route-finding needed and cell service that can be spotty. Hikers share this system with mountain bikers. Dogs are allowed on leash, and a per-vehicle day-use fee is required for park entry.

Blue ponds below the rimThe spur looks east across bright evaporation ponds between the mesa and the Colorado River…

The spur looks east across bright evaporation ponds between the mesa and the Colorado River canyon. These are working potash ponds, not natural lakes: potash is dissolved from the Paradox Formation deep underground, then recovered as the brine evaporates in shallow basins. Blue dye helps the water absorb sunlight and evaporate faster. Frame the ponds with the near rock edge to show their scale against the canyon; the sharp grid is striking beside the layered natural cliffs.
