About Midpoint Overlook
Why stop
- Blue potash ponds make the canyon panorama stand out.
Heads up
- It takes a walk or ride on remote shared-use trails to reach.
Midpoint Overlook is a short spur off the Midpoint singletrack on the park's remote east rim, looking across blue potash ponds into canyon country. It's a worthwhile detour if you're already walking or riding this network; if you're choosing just one outing, save time for the park's other trails.

More about Midpoint Overlook
Getting to the viewMidpoint is a 0.
Midpoint is a 0.2-mile connector between Upper Dark Horse and Cable Line, with a short spur to the overlook. This isn't a drive-up stop: the far-east mixed-use network's main trailhead is about a mile south of the entrance station. Hikers share the trails with bikes. Expect difficult routes with scattered obstacles and basic route-finding. Junction maps help, but cell service is spotty, so save a map and carry water. Keep dogs leashed on the mountain-biking trails.
Ponds against red rockThe bright pools are evaporation ponds where potash, a source of potassium, is recovered.
The bright pools are evaporation ponds where potash, a source of potassium, is recovered. Their industrial color sits below layered red-rock cliffs, with the Colorado River beyond. Keep the ponds and canyon in one photo; a little of the pale deadwood in the foreground gives the broad view some scale.
