Pop's View Lookout

Overview

Pop's View Lookout is a quick, signposted pull-off on the Milford Road between The Divide and Marian Corner. It’s the kind of stop that breaks up the drive perfectly: step out, breathe in a huge sweep of the Hollyford Valley, snap a few photos, and roll on.

What You’ll See

• Big, open views down the Hollyford Valley framed by rugged Fiordland peaks. On clear days you can pick out notable summits like Mount Christina, Mount Lyttle, and Mount Marian.
• Classic Fiordland mood: lush, mossy forest at the roadside, and often a veil of mist hanging in the valley that makes photos feel cinematic.

Wildlife

Kea often patrol the railings and car roofs here. They’re clever, cheeky alpine parrots—fantastic to watch, but don’t feed them and keep an eye on any loose trim or snacks.

Why It’s Worth a Stop

This section of SH94 is narrow and winding, and Pop’s View gives you a safe, purpose-built spot to pull over for the scenery. If the small signed bay is full, there’s a larger unmarked gravel area just to the east with similar views and far more space.

History

Named in memory of Robert Alister Andrew, who died in an avalanche here in 1983. The site doubles as a simple memorial lookout.
