Two Medicine Lake

Two Medicine Lake is a mountain lake in Glacier’s southeast, with a developed east shore and Sinopah Mountain rising across the water. The landing, picnic area and nearby trails make this more than a quick pullout: settle in for the view, get out on the water, or build a longer walk around it. It’s a deliberate drive from the park’s busier districts, so give the stop room in your day.

Commented boat tours and small-boat rentals offer a different angle on the lake and its peaks; some cruises also pair with guided hikes. Trails from the lake area lead toward Twin Falls and Upper Two Medicine Lake. If you’re combining a cruise and a walk, check current boat times and trail access before setting out.

Sinopah Mountain is the standout across the water. On a still morning the lake can reflect the peak and the surrounding ridges; wind quickly breaks up the image. For a photo, keep a strip of shoreline or water in the foreground and wait for a lull.

The log building now used as the Two Medicine Campstore was built in 1914 as the dining hall for the Two Medicine Chalet complex. President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a public radio address from the chalet in 1934, a surprising chapter in the story of this remote lakeshore.

Parking, public restrooms, picnic tables, a general store and the South Shore Trailhead sit around the developed east-shore area. Visitors often describe this corner as calmer than the park’s busiest districts, though parking can still be pressured at peak times; earlier is safer. If you’re planning a longer walk, bring what you need rather than counting on a particular food item at the store.
