Allow about three hours at the pace given for the older 10 km through-walk. This listing covers the northern section only. From Gum Flat Road, the sandy track passes through woodland with tall hollow-bearing eucalypts, grass trees and heath. Around 2 km in, a seat looks across the Anglesea valley; wedge-tailed eagles or swamp harriers may pass overhead. Farther along, scented paperbark becomes more prominent, and the track reaches a short, steep gravel rise beside a table and bench.

Stepping stones and heathlandLarge stepping stones cross water before the track climbs into open heath.

Large stepping stones cross water before the track climbs into open heath. Yellow Rice-flower blooms around the stones in spring and summer; Common Heath is especially showy in winter. Look for orchids at the track edges and listen for Southern Emu-wrens in the heath near Gum Flat Road. The walking report that described the split route is from 2018, updated in 2023, and current access across the old through-connection was not confirmed; check current park guidance before trying to continue toward Harrison Track South.
