Henderson Falls

Henderson Falls is an 8–10 m cascade in the Lorne part of Great Otway National Park, spilling over broad rock ledges into a shallow pool. The enclosed tree-fern gully is as much of the payoff as the drop itself. I’d add it to a day on the local waterfall walks, especially if you want to link it with Won Wondah Falls.

The falls sit on the walking network linking Allenvale, Sheoak and nearby waterfalls. One longer circuit also takes in Phantom Falls and The Canyon; some sections are steep and rocky, and approaches differ in effort. Phone directions can miss the trail access, so use an official park map to choose a signed start, then check current track status. Dogs aren’t allowed on roads, tracks or trails in the Lorne area of the park.

In dry spells the falls can dwindle to a trickle or dry up; after rain, they can run fuller. Go after a run of wet weather for the best chance of a stronger cascade, but treat flow as rainfall-dependent rather than guaranteed.

At the base, include some of the rock ledges, ferns and fallen timber around the cascade. The wider view shows how the waterfall sits in its leafy gully better than a tight crop of the water.
