Trail guide
Kennett River Nature Walk follows the riverbank on an easy out-and-back. This entry follows the longer mapped line: about 1.24 km (0.77 mi) each way, or 2.48 km (1.54 mi) total. Allow 45–60 minutes. The path climbs gradually as it heads inland, then you retrace the same line to the picnic-area start.
A shorter self-guided visit is also listed at 400 m return and about 20 minutes. The exact point where that short section turns around isn't shown, so this entry uses the full mapped corridor; check the on-site interpretation if you want the shorter stop.
The river is the point of the walk. Look for a still pool beneath the gums near the start and, farther along, a shallow channel edged with rounded stones and ferns. The self-guided interpretation is about local wildlife and history. Native birds and animals may turn up, and kangaroos are more likely around dawn or dusk. Sightings are a bonus rather than a promise.
Kennett River Picnic Area is the listed starting access beside the Great Ocean Road. The path follows the edge of the settlement in places, so expect a local river walk rather than a remote bush route. Dedicated parking, toilets and drinking-water details weren't confirmed. No trail-specific dog rule was found; check the signs before bringing a pet.
