Trail guide
The Springtime Wildflower Experience is an easy 1.6-mile (2.5 km) circuit through coastal heath near Anglesea. Allow about an hour before flower stops. The walk climbs gently from O’Donohue Road to the heathland firebreaks, with a broad view toward Aireys Inlet and Lorne near the start. It’s a good choice if you want a short, flower-focused walk rather than a summit or waterfall hike.
Pass the first track on your right and take the second, about 80 metres from the entrance. Follow the gradual climb through grass-trees, sedges, messmate and prickly teatree. At the fork, turn left toward the firebreak behind Harvey Street. Spring is the showiest season: white Cypress Daisy-bush lines the early track and Great Sun Orchids flower on the firebreak. There are flowers in other seasons too, so it can still be a pleasant heath walk outside spring.
Park near Fifth Avenue on O’Donohue Road and use the small park entrance opposite the street. The named route follows local heath tracks and firebreaks; its exact turns are not available as a GPS route, so treat the mapped line as an approximation and check the turns before setting out. Grey Shrike-thrush calls are common here, and Eastern Grey Kangaroos are often seen. Toilets and drinking water were not identified at the start. The dog rule for this exact circuit is unconfirmed, so check the current park rules before bringing a pet.
