Guide
Wilcolo Campground is the park’s only walk-in camp, tucked between native pine and the eastern wall of Wilpena Pound, with St Mary Peak rising behind it. It’s tent-only and unpowered, for walkers on the Heysen Trail and cyclists following the Mawson or Flinders Ranges by Bike routes.
There are limited, unallocated sites, a long-drop toilet and a rainwater tank. The park can’t guarantee the tank’s water quality or supply, so carry drinking water you can rely on. Campfires aren’t allowed at any time of year; camp stoves are permitted for hikers and cyclists.
There’s no vehicle access, so you’ll carry your tent and supplies from your route. The campground information gives no single walk-in distance; check your approach and current booking details before setting out. This suits people already travelling the surrounding trails, not anyone looking for a drive-up or powered base.
