Guide
Three Mile Campground is an NPS backcountry campground on Rock Harbor Channel, reached on foot from the Rock Harbor and Mount Franklin trails, or by canoe, kayak or private boat. It has eight shelters and a dock. For hikers, it works well as a first camp after leaving Rock Harbor or a last one before returning; boats can overnight at the dock too. The tradeoff is a livelier harbor setting than the quieter west end of the island.
The NPS says all Isle Royale campgrounds have a water source and an outhouse. Treat backcountry water by filtering and chemically treating it before drinking. The campground has no road access; arrive on foot or by water.
