This is an easy, 0.6-mile loop through classic Appalachian hardwoods in the Grandview area. Expect a short, mellow stroll with about 49 feet of total elevation gain—most hikers wrap it up in roughly 14 minutes. It’s hiking-only and a great leg-stretcher for families, beginners, or anyone wanting a quiet forest meander.

What to Expect

You’re here for serenity, not overlooks: the loop winds under shady canopy on a leaf‑littered path with minimal grade. It’s often uncrowded, and the stillness ups your odds of spotting turkey and deer. Some visitors feel there isn’t much “to see,” so set expectations for a peaceful woods walk rather than a view hike.

Trailhead and Facilities

Start near the entrance to the Grandview Shelter #2 parking area, just up from the restrooms; the other end pops out by the Shelter #2 playground. On the area map it’s labeled as trail 3. Parking is straightforward, and having flush toilets right there is a nice perk.

Best Time to Hike

It’s pleasant year‑round, but September–October is the sweet spot—cool temps, dry footing, and colorful foliage. Weekdays and earlier mornings tend to be the quietest. Leaf fall can hide the tread in autumn; take your time and watch your footing.

Tips and Extensions

• Dogs are welcome on leash—pack out waste and keep them close to protect wildlife.
• In heavy leaf cover, the entrance can be easy to miss; look for the signed access near Shelter #2 and the packed tread.
• Want a bit more without upping the difficulty? Link with the adjacent Big Buck Trail for a longer forest loop. Craving big views instead? Head to the Grandview Rim to Turkey Spur or plan the Endless Wall Trail elsewhere in the park.
