Stehekin Landing is the main public dock at the head of Lake Chelan, where passenger ferries bring visitors into the roadless Stehekin Valley. The water and steep, forested mountains are right at the landing, making it both an arrival point and a natural place to pause before heading inland. No road connects Stehekin to the outside world.
Passenger ferries serve the dock; visitors also reach Stehekin on foot or by private aircraft, but there is no regular air service. Check the boat operators’ current schedules and fares before setting plans, and leave time for onward travel into the valley rather than treating the landing as a quick stop.
Food and grocery options in the valley are limited in summer and unavailable in the off-season, so bring supplies and confirm what will be available for your trip. Cell service is absent in the valley; public Wi-Fi may be available near the landing.
The valley has long been a passage between Washington’s interior wilderness and the North Cascades. Stehekin has several Salish-language interpretations: a passage through or a turning-around place in Lushootseed, and mountain tops in nxa’amxcin. From the head of the lake, the dock is a literal beginning to the route inland.
