Farndale Daffodil Walk“You're approaching Low Mill in Farndale, where small wild daffodils line the River Dove each spring. They usually bloom from mid-March to mid-April, but the valley and woodland make a good walk beyond flower season.”

Trail guide
A complete 3.5 mile (5.6 km) loop from Low Mill car park, out along the River Dove to Church Houses and back by the higher farm fields. Allow about 2 hours, which leaves time for stopping to look at the daffodils and for working through the gates.
From Low Mill, follow the signed path down to the bridge and turn left to walk upstream beside the River Dove. The path passes High Mill and continues through meadows and lightly wooded stretches to Church Houses, where the churchyard makes a short optional detour. The return climbs to the upper field route, crossing gates and farm access land back toward Low Mill.
Easy overall. The riverside section is mostly level and largely surfaced, with two short inclines, several gates and no stiles. The upper return is the harder half, with steeper field sections, farmyards to pass through and the occasional stile, and it is less straightforward to follow than the riverside path. Farmland paths can be muddy, so wear footwear you do not mind getting dirty. Sampled elevations along the route range roughly from 118 to 165 metres, so the undulations are gentle rather than demanding.
The meadows and woods are privately owned working farms. Stay on the paths and do not pick the flowers. Dogs are welcome but should be kept under close control, and preferably on a lead near livestock and around the farms.
The daffodil season is the busiest period, so expect more company on the riverside path then. The walk begins and ends at Low Mill car park on Daleside Road, where there are toilets and accessible parking spaces. The full loop is not suitable for all visitors, since the field return includes steeper sections and occasional stiles.
