Trail guide
A Walk to The Cage is a 1.2-mile estate loop from the refreshment kiosk in Lyme Park's main car park. It climbs the short, steep hill to The Cage, then comes down by Green Drive to the house entrance, about 200 yards from the car park. Allow 30–60 minutes. This is a compact viewpoint walk with one sharp effort, not a flat stroll.
Pause at the lodge: you can look toward central Manchester on one side and the Peak District on the other, with the deer sanctuary below. The uphill path crosses grass and is steep for a short stretch. On the way down, follow the waymarker's sharp left onto Green Drive. This historic grassy avenue, lined with trees, gives the return a different feel from the open hillside.
Enter Lyme Park from the A6 and use the main car park at SK12 2NX; the walk starts beside the refreshment kiosk. It ends at the house entrance, a short walk from the car park. Dogs are welcome, but keep them on a short lead around The Cage. Toilets and cafes are at the house and Timber Yard, not on the hill.
