The South Perimeter Walk at Lyme is a 7-mile (11.2 km) loop from Lyme’s main car park, taking 3–4 hours. It climbs past the Hall and Kennel Wood, leaves the estate at East Lodge, then circles via Bowstone Gate and Sponds Hill before returning by Hase Bank and Plattwood Farm. The first climb uses the tarmac drive; beyond East Lodge expect rough tracks, lanes, field paths and stiles. A stone viewpoint above the Hall looks down on the house, the Cage and Knightslow Wood. The Bowstones are thought to be Saxon cross fragments and may mark an old boundary. Sponds Hill is above 1,300 feet, with a seven-county viewfinder on clear days. Hase Bank opens over the Cheshire Plain, with the Macclesfield Canal and old coal tips below. Frame the Hall, Cage and wood together from the stone viewpoint.

Tree roots, uneven ground, stiles and mud after heavy rain make it a poor choice if you need a step-free path. At the Methodist chapel, head toward West Park Gate but stay outside; ignore West Drive and take the stile into Hase Bank. Dogs are welcome on a short lead. Start in the main car park, a mile down Lyme’s drive from the A6. Check visitor admission and parking arrangements. The Timber Yard café and toilets are near the lot; no on-route water refill was found.
