Hiking Pass Mountain Loop

The loopPass Mountain Loop is a 3.

Pass Mountain Loop is a 3.4-mile circuit from the back of Panorama parking to Pass Mountain Hut and back by a different trail. It is a moderate half-day hike; allow about 2½ hours for 670 feet of climbing. The reward is an Appalachian Trail outing through fairly open woods to a shelter, with wildflowers and birds to look for. If you want a summit viewpoint, choose another hike; the hut is the destination here.

The way throughFrom the back of Panorama parking on Skyline Drive at mile 31.

From the back of Panorama parking on Skyline Drive at mile 31.6, take the short connector to the Appalachian Trail and head north. Cross U.S. Route 211 and Skyline Drive, then turn right onto the fire road to the hut. From there, follow the blue blazes on Pass Mountain Trail back to the Appalachian Trail south and the start. This is the Panorama circuit; the short loop at Pass Mountain Overlook and the Beahms Gap summit hike are different outings.
