This pet-allowed Robertson Mountain loop starts at the Old Rag boundary parking area, follows Route 600 past Nicholson Hollow Trailhead, then turns onto Weakley Hollow Fire Road and climbs Robertson Mountain Trail to the summit. It descends to Old Rag Fire Road, turns onto Weakley Hollow Fire Road, and returns to Route 600 and the parking area. The connected route measures about 9.6 miles. The park’s 2024 area map lists 7.8 miles for this alternate, so mileage is uncertain; plan for the mapped distance and follow current trail signs. The map rates the hike strenuous and gives a 7–9 hour range.

Expect a long approach on fire roads, a substantial climb on Robertson Mountain Trail, and a fire-road return. Rocky outcrops near the summit open onto layered mountain ridges, with a view toward Old Rag. This boundary-side circuit is distinct from the shorter Limberlost approach to the same summit.

This is the pet-allowed alternative; pets must be on a physical leash no longer than six feet, and the route avoids the ticketed Ridge, Saddle and Ridge Access trails. The map’s unhighlighted approach, including Weakley Hollow Fire Road, does not require the Old Rag day-use ticket; a park entrance pass or fee still applies. There is no water available at Old Rag, so carry enough for the full hike.
