More about Sparkes Lookout

Above the coastSparkes Lookout is a rocky viewpoint reached from the Darby Saddle–Tongue Point track.

Sparkes Lookout is a rocky viewpoint reached from the Darby Saddle–Tongue Point track. The uphill walk starts in stringybark and casuarina forest, then opens onto a headland above the sea. Views reach pyramid-shaped Rodondo Island to the south and Shallow Inlet to the north. It is a worthwhile detour if you want a coastal outlook without walking all the way to Tongue Point.

The side trackFrom Darby Saddle, the turnoff comes about 2.1 km along the walking track.

From Darby Saddle, the turnoff comes about 2.1 km along the walking track. The spur climbs another 300 m to the lookout, making the viewpoint about 2.4 km one way from the saddle. Turn back here for roughly 4.8 km return; the main track continues to Tongue Point if you are doing the longer walk. The approach is uphill through forest, so this is a proper short hike rather than a roadside stop.

Take in both sidesLook south for Rodondo Island, then north toward Shallow Inlet.

Look south for Rodondo Island, then north toward Shallow Inlet. For a photo, use a pale granite outcrop in the foreground with the sea beyond; the rocks give the wide coastal view a sense of scale. The viewpoint itself is the payoff, with no need to continue to Tongue Point unless you want the longer route.
