Grünsteinhütte is a mountain restaurant at about 1,220 m, just below Grünstein's 1,304 m summit in the Berchtesgaden Alps. Hikers and via-ferrata climbers stop here for a meal in the rustic dining room or on the terrace. The summit viewpoint is another 15 to 20 minutes uphill, so this works as a destination in its own right or as a break on the way to the top.

The marked route from the Hammerstiel car park starts on a broad forest track, then turns onto a steep, narrow trail with many switchbacks before rejoining the wider access track about 125 m below the hut. The official route to the summit is 5 km round trip and lists about 2.5 hours; that includes the summit beyond the hut. The hut is a proper uphill outing, not a stop beside the road. A second ascent comes up from the Königssee bobsled and luge track.

The kitchen serves hearty Bavarian dishes, cake and drinks; homemade Kaiserschmarrn is its signature sweet option. Eat inside the rustic room or take a table on the terrace. Meal service can take longer than a quick café stop when the terrace is busy, so leave time if you have a schedule to keep. The hut runs seasonally, generally from May through October, and closes in winter; check the operator's dates before planning around it.

Look toward KönigsseeAs the forest thins on the approach, views open toward Königssee and the Hagengebirge.

As the forest thins on the approach, views open toward Königssee and the Hagengebirge. The terrace looks onto the surrounding mountains, while the summit gives a broader panorama toward the Watzmann and Berchtesgaden Alps. If the view is your main reason to climb, continue the extra 15 to 20 minutes above the hut.
