Schapbachalm is a working alpine pasture and small mountain refreshment stop below Kühroint, tucked between Grünstein and the Watzmann massif. It is an appealing break on the uphill route toward Kühroint or Watzmannhaus; mountain bikers also stop here. From Wimbachbrücke, allow about 1½ hours uphill; this is a trail stop, not a drive-up café. The alp operates seasonally, so check current service before counting on food.

The alm makes its own cheese, a distinctive thing to taste or take away when available. Visitors also mention milk, buttermilk, butter, snacks and drinks, but that range can vary; expect alpine refreshments rather than a fixed menu. Grazing cattle are at the heart of this traditional summer pasture, which is both a working farm and part of the region’s long alpine-farming tradition.

The nearby Watzmann is the visual payoff: when cloud clears, frame some meadow and cattle with the mountain above, rather than filling the shot with rock alone. If you have energy after reaching Kühroint, Archenkanzel is about half an hour farther across the meadow, with a dramatic view over Königssee and St. Bartholomä. That viewpoint is an extension, not at Schapbachalm itself.
