Camping Grafenlehen

Camping Grafenlehen is a family-run campground in Schönau am Königssee, with pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes. It makes a handy base for reaching Königssee and the Jennerbahn on foot; you stay near the lake, not on its shore. If you’re bringing a tent, reserve ahead, especially when arriving by car, bicycle or train, because the operator limits the places available to those arrivals.

Standard pitches have 16-amp electricity, with water points shared around the site; comfort pitches add fresh-water and wastewater connections. The open setting brings views toward Watzmann, Grünstein and Jenner, though many pitches offer little shade.

The campground has shared washrooms with showers, laundry and dishwashing facilities for guests. A small seasonal shop sells morning rolls and croissants, plus a limited selection of groceries, drinks and camping supplies. Six electric-vehicle charging stations are available to campground guests.

Camping around Königssee began after the Second World War, when local farmers rented hay meadows to summer tent campers after the harvest. Georg (“Girgl”) Lenz established this campground in 1953, and the Lenz family still runs it in its third generation. In the early 1970s, the hilly meadow was leveled into terraces, and a stream that crossed the tent meadow was partly rerouted underground.
