Parking
Use the Königssee car park, then walk down Seestraße to the landing stage by the boathouses. The 4.3 km route begins at the landing stage; the car-park approach is extra.

Königssee by Boat or on Foot“You're coming up on Königssee, where electric boats carry you between steep mountain walls beneath the Watzmann. I'd take the boat to St. Bartholomä for the red-domed church and a wander along the shore.”

Trail guide
Rabenwand via Malerwinkel is a 4.3 km loop from the Königssee landing stage, combining the lakeside circuit with a signed climb to the Rabenwand lookout. Allow about two hours. The Malerwinkel-only walk is easier; take this version if you are comfortable with a steep, rocky spur for a higher view down the lake. Published descriptions give 4.8 to 5.3 km for the Rabenwand outing; the 5.3 km itinerary starts at the car park and bus stop. This stored route measures 4.31 km from the landing stage, so count the car-park approach separately. Published ascent estimates also differ, from about 180 m to 300 m.
From the landing stage, follow the broad path past the boathouses to Malerwinkel, the “painter’s corner.” Artists used this perspective to paint Königssee. The loop then leaves the lakeshore for mixed mountain forest. At the first signed junction after Malerwinkel, follow the Rabenwand sign onto the narrower path.
The Rabenwandsteig climbs over rocky, uneven ground to a lookout with benches and a stamp point. From here the view runs down Königssee toward the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä on the opposite shore. The spur is the demanding part of the walk: take care with your footing, then return the same way to its junction before continuing around the loop. For a photo, include the projecting wooded shore in the foreground to show the lake’s depth.
After the spur, stay on the Malerwinkel route through forest toward the Jennerbahn valley station and back to the lakeside. Keep dogs on a lead and remain on marked paths. The separate continuation toward the Königsbach waterfall pools is closed to visitors and is not part of this walk.
